Prix Jeunesse Pittsburgh for Educators
Pittsburgh, United States
WQED, the Fred Rogers Center, and the Toonseum are delighted to announce that the Prix Jeunesse, an international children’s television competition and festival, is coming to Pittsburgh! Our three organizations are collaborating to offer several events on October 12 and 13, and we hope you will join us for what will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience to watch and learn about the very best in children’s media.
October 12 from 10 am – 4:30 pm
The Fred Rogers Center is facilitating two screenings and discussion sessions for educators, media makers, university faculty and students, and community leaders. This day of learning will be held at WQED and presented and moderated by David Kleeman (PRIX JEUNESSE Foundation International Advisory Board and President, American Center for Children and Media). We’ll have expert panelists and robust discussions about the lessons we can learn from international children’s programming.
Two Screenings and Discussion Sessions
Audience May Attend One or Both Sessions (60 attendees per session)
10:00 am – 12:30 pm: “The Life Inside”
Often, television is used to support emotional literacy in young children - to help them explore friendships and relationships, and understand their feelings. What are the essential elements of quality in such programming, and how might they differ across countries or regions?
2:00 – 4:30 pm: “The World Outside”
High-quality programming can expand young children’s vision and understanding of all that’s around them. How is television’s role as a “window to the world” used by producers and broadcasters across cultures?
PLEASE REGISTER FOR EITHER THE MORNING SESSION (10AM - 12:30PM), OR THE AFTERNOON SESSION (2 - 4:30PM), OR IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US FOR BOTH SESSIONS, PLEASE REGISTER FOR BOTH.
